Hall of Shame Inductee

[Editor's note: This entry is a rant and very specific to the G'Town area. Non-interested readers may want to skip to the next log entry.]

As I commented in a previous entry, our head sail sustained damage during the passing of hurricane Sandy. Close inspection determined that we would be able to fix the sail by cutting out an eight foot by 2 foot section on the trailing edge and replacing it with new material.

I ordered the required pieces and parts and then had them sent to Reggie Air in Lauderdale for shipping down to G'Town. Everything went fine and the stuff arrived in a timely manner.

Unfortunately, since the first of this year, a non-Bahamian needs a customs "broker" to retrieve their shipments to the island. The alleged "broker" is supposed to fill out the required forms and walk them through some mysterious and totally random process out at the airport and with a wave of a magic wand and huge amounts of cash, presto chango, your parts are supposed to be yours.

We have two choices of brokers here on Great Exuma, Dajuan, a.k.a. DoughBoy, or, Naiman Forbes, from Forbes enterprises. Dajuan has a seriously bad reputation for reliability, so we've used Naiman in the past.

The first time we did this, everything was fine. The second time Naiman jerked us around and took four days to finally spring our stuff. This time he was just completely inept, generally lazy and downright criminally greedy.

I finally got my parts last night at 7 pm. They had been on the island for 8 days and 5 hours. I had to make 13 different phone calls to Naiman. He promised me 8 different delivery times over 4 days; none of which were met. He promised to call me back 7 times and managed to do so not once.

Our parts were for the "propulsion" of our vessel and as such not subject to importation duty. I clearly and succinctly told this to Naiman 4 times. I provided paper work to prove this. He still let them charge us duty anyway. An extra 64 dollar charge thanks to his awesome attention to detail.

In the end, I moved into his office and setup camp and refused to leave without my parts. His assistant (who was very nice) couldn't close up and go home for the night until she got him to come back to the office and deliver my goods.

In the end, he relented and showed up at 7 pm. I took my packages and then told him to his face and in a well spoken, but not threatening manner that he was by far the worst business man I had ever met here on Great Exuma.

I let him know that I would use every means at my disposal to make ensure that every single cruising boat that transits through here this year knows exactly how he carries himself.

I was so mad I even went a little old school "Dynasty" (80's tv show) on his ass and told him I'd make it my mission in life to see that not a single cruising boat spends a dime with him and his so called "enterprise". (Editor note: He's out to destroy me !!!)

And then he still had the balls to ask for $60 in fees for getting our stuff.

Naiman Forbes, welcome to the Dream Catcher Hall of Shame. Enjoy your stay at the top of the list.

Wow, angry bozo. You might need some Zoloft.

Sounds like a call to Uncle Bud(If you've got a phone, you've got a witness) might be in order

....you might want to take Dad's options with a grain of salt....remember, he's just spent Thanksgiving with all of the rest of us, and ...well, .....let's just say is was chaos as usual....stop and think before calling Uncle Bud......
