Another Day Down

So another day comes to a close. The last week has seen us returning to our normal boat life after 7 weeks ashore. The house sitting was a nice break, but it’s good to be back on the boat.

I’ve taken advantage of the south westerly winds of the last two days to get outside and do some spear fishing. The lobsters continue to be plentiful, but I didn’t see a decent size edible fish over the 5 hours I was out. Hmmm…

The wind has stayed up at 12 to 15 knots, so we are keeping reasonably cool despite the 90 degree heat and the 100% humidity that seems to be the norm this time of year.

Most of the businesses on the main island have closed down for the “summer slow season”. The tend to re-open around November 1, so until then, things are really, really slow on the island.

Next week we’re off to house sit for our friends who own a hotel here. They have two big dogs and a cat that have to stay behind, so we’ll be temporarily moving in to keep them company.

Hopefully I’ll be able to use this time to get our refrigerator woes straightened out. I’m supposed to get a call from Engel on Tuesday telling me that a new unit is on the way, but so far their customer support has sucked total ass and as such I am not hopeful. If this falls through, I think I am going to fly to Lauderdale and speak to them in person. Don’t worry, I’ll be packin’ miloWeasel’s spoon.

We’ve been using the dueling megabrelli about every other day. We’ve perfected our packing technique and the two of us can now successfully transport both Megabrellas, two chairs and a beach cooler in one trip. For those interested, it takes about 11 minutes to deploy and secure both Megarellas and be seated in your chair with a cold beer in hand.

I’ve got a couple of small wood working projects to complete at our upcoming house sitting gig, but other than those and the fridge issue, the boat is holding up pretty well. Ok, that’s about it. More to follow, end of line …

P.S. – Today’s picture is one of the many turtles that are currently living near our mooring.
